Sarah is available to be hired as a Motion Capture Movement & Performance Director and an Acting & Character Movement Coach for Animators – working on specific characters, productions & projects. Sarah works in Film, TV, Animation, VR, Games & other digital & virtual spaces.


MoCap Movement & Performance Directing

Sarah has been Movement Directing & Directing Motion Capture projects since 2010 and has worked with numerous performers, animators, directors, creatives, supervisors, and emerging artists, specialising particularly in character and creature performance. Sarah was recently Motion Capture Director for 3 VR films for the Illinois Holocaust Museum with East City Films, released later this year and Movement Director on a high profile Warner Bros/Universal project TBA in 2024. Other recent productions include Movement & Performance Director for ‘Dream’ (based on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night Dream), a Live Motion Capture online virtual production for The Royal Shakespeare Company with Marshmallow Laser Feast & The Philharmonia Orchestra. Also as Movement Director for Cinematic VR project ‘In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats’, currently touring in the UK, Europe & USA, centred on the 80’s rave scene with East City Films and written & directed by award winning Director Darren Emerson. Other projects include working with numerous VFX companies including Framestore, Double Negative & MPC amongst others.

In 2010 Sarah pioneered the development of Motion Capture Training for Performers through her company Shapes in Motion and since has developed many courses and workshops to support artists and animators in this industry. She is extremely proud of this achievement and commends companies who have since grown further in this field. Sarah has also taught for: The Actors Centre, The Actors Guild, Spotlight, Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, East 15, Royal Conservatoire Birmingham School of Acting, Mountview, Bucks New University, ICAT…

In 2016 Sarah founded and coordinated The Mocap Troupe, a team of go to Actors & Physical Performers who can be hired specifically for Motion Capture and also Creature work. In 2022 the Troupe expanded, now celebrating a more diverse range of movement backgrounds, practices and performance genres. Acting & Character Movement Coaching for Animators

Since 2008 Sarah has worked as a character consultant and acting & character movement coach for numerous VFX companies and for major Films including: Jungle Book, World War Z, Gravity, Guardians of the Galaxy and Jupiter Ascending. She has worked for and taught at: MPC, Double Negative, Framestore, Aardman, Jellyfish Pictures, Creative Assembly, Pitstop Productions, BFX Festival, Animex Festival, Escape Studios, Norwich University of the Arts (BA Animation), UAL (MA Animation), University of Hertfordshire (BA Animation courses) Met Film School (1-year Visual Effects and Animation), Ravensbourne (BA Animation Production), University of Kent (Msc Computer Animation), University of West London (BA Digital Animation), Bucks New University (BA and MA Animation & Visual Effects).

Sarah coaches animators through theory, research and practical work, to discover and explore a characters’ unique physical language and embodiment in relation to their internal landscape, speech & dialogue, motivations & intentions.

Sarah’s work has included leading workshops at MPC, exploring the physical life of Reepicheep, one of the main CG characters in ‘The Chronicles of Narnia – Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ and of Groot in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.

Animators are storytellers, and through various themed classes and workshops the skills of great storytelling and the development of acting & character movement performance choices can be explored and discovered.
